Career choice

Choosing a career is an important step in everyone’s life because it’s when we decide what we want for the rest of our life and it’s something that will mark our destiny.
The cartoon shows us someone really confused about his career path, someone that doesn’t know what he wants to do in his future life.
This step in our life is really important for everybody and we must be conscious about that, we must think about it and be sure about what we will choose. It’s a decision that we should make based in our heart, in our preferences and we shouldn’t choose something just because our family or our friends tell us to.
Before taking a decision we should follow some steps: be sure about our likes/dislikes, our interests and our abilities; make a list of what jobs interest us and which of them match our skills; try to gain some experience and references and get in touch with someone who has a job we like.
Nowadays it is more difficult to choose a career because we must choose something we like, but there are studying areas that don’t assure a job in the future and we should take that into account. But on the other side, we can’t choose an area just because it assures us a job in the future. That’s why this choice is so difficult for me and that’s also why I haven’t decided yet.

I am not sure yet about what career I’ll choose, though I have some ideas about it. It will be in the area of sciences and biology for certain but I still don’t know what course.
I think, as I love doing so many things, that the first thing to do is to think what jobs I wouldn’t like to do. That will reduce my list of possible choices. Then I need to separate the things I would like to do the most from the ones I wouldn’t like so much. After that, the next step is probably to imagine my daily routine: do I see myself in a small office, working all day long sat on a chair in front of a computer? Or do I see myself working outdoors?
Part-time jobs and volunteering are good bets when we are unsure about what to do or confused about our choices.
Nowadays there are several reasons for the general difficulty in finding the correct job. The great amount of options available, the excessive number of qualified people with degrees in the same areas, the weak support of the educational system when it comes to show to the youngsters what the labor market is like and what each job involves, are in my opinion, the main reasons why it’s so difficult to make the right choices.

During all my life I’ve wanted to have many jobs such as: astronaut, actor, doctor, teacher, politician, pilot and others but as time went by my goals changed and now at this moment my dreams is to do voluntary work.
In my dreams I try to help the world, the people, the animals, the nature etc. I want, in the future, to help people in a scenery of war or devastation where it is very urgent to help the most in need. In my opinion the first step before taking a decision is to know if we like the future job or not. The other steps, imply thinking on the place of work, on the money that we will earn, on the people that will work with us, and of course, on the possible boss. I think that nowadays it is more difficult to choose the correct job because, today there are many more jobs than in the past, and I also think that people are afraid of working. Many people don’t choose a certain job because either the parents don’t like the profession, or it is a profession that requires changing country or too much dedication to work.
In my case to be able to have this life would be spectacular because it would be a big fulfillment, if I woke up the morning and during the day I could give a new “smile” to a person it would be the best of all. I also know that if I choose this life my salary will be small but if I can help people that don´t have anything I will not need a good car or a big house. Voluntary work is a very dangerous career but I am willing to run the risk to help saving planet earth, my home.

For many of us, finding a career is in itself a long journey.

It takes us many years, time, effort and perseverance to become successful. It’s the “Long Road” that the cartoon shows us.

Tough competition and lack of jobs are the main problems nowadays. What I want to be in life…. I need to go down the road and try to find a dream career. Choosing a career is terrifying! That’s why the cartoon shows someone with a question mark over his head – this represents the doubts we all have when facing different options/ways! I truly believe that every human being has a purpose on earth and mine is to be an engineer. I know I must study a lot but nothing can be done without effort. I would like to be an engineer because in that job I could invent and build many things, from toys to tools. Using the principles of motion, energy and force I could find solutions for some problems that surely I have to face in my daily life.

This cartoon represents very well what happens to students that need to choose their future because it’s very confusing and we just don’t know what to choose, which way to go. There are so many things that we can do and we don’t know what is what. I think there should be more information because with little information we can think that we want to be “this” but "this" is not what we really expected.
Before choosing our career we need to think about what we can do best. It's a very important decision because our choice will influence our future.
We should choose our career according to what we like. I think this is the most important because we will spend most of our life working and we can only be happy if we do what we like. However, we need to be conscious because it’s really hard to get a job and there are some jobs easier to get than others... and we need to think about it.
We need to give our best in our work and be creative. I think we need to be creative to stand out of the crowd because there are too many people for the same job.

This Picture, for us, students means a lot. When we finish school we are ready to enter the world of work and for that it is important all the education we received during the previous years. It isn’t always easy to choose a profession and the picture shows exactly that, there are too many ways we can follow and we don’t know which one is the best. In my case I still have doubts about what degree to take. But this decision has to be based in my preferences.
There are some aspects we have to take into account when choosing a career, such as our likes and dislikes and also our abilities. It isn’t also a bad idea to get information about the job we want.
I think that nowadays it´s difficult to choose a job because on the one side more students are getting “badly graduated”, I mean, choosing the wrong area, simply because they chose the one they think is the best economically. On the other side, the world crisis, creates less jobs.

At this moment I’m not sure about what career I want to my future because there are many careers that I love, as for example, volcanologist, archaeologist and careers related to biology and cinema.
I want one of these careers but they are very demanding in terms of access marks and it’s a little bit difficult for me to get them. But I believe that sometimes when we really want one thing that we really love and if we make an effort we can have it.
The most important step/attitude, I think, it’s not to be influenced by our family or friends to take a career that we don’t like just because they want us to. It would be a huge mistake for the rest of our life and then we wouldn’t do our work with the same pleasure and motivation as we would if we had chosen a job that you really wanted/liked. We should also search for information in the internet or with people qualified in the career that you want and this way be more prepared for the future tasks that await us.
Nowadays it’s very difficult to choose the correct job because there are lots of qualified people in the same areas, there is much competitiveness and with this economic crisis there are fewer jobs. Because of this some people think it isn’t worth to choose certain areas of studies to get to the conclusion that the labor market is “exhausted” and there are no vacancies left for them.
